As we all know, because Ubuntu developers wants to make sure of the stability before putting any software in the repos, Blender is one of this softwares that's far behind of the most recent version 2.48. If anybody wants to run Blender 2.48 on Ubuntu go to http://www.getdeb.net/ > categories > Graphics and Design > Blender 2.48. Download the .deb file and install it. You will want to remove any existent version of Blender-either via Synaptic or Applications > Add/Remove before installing 2.48.
